Project: Hands Off – Stopmotion Animation

For the Hands Off project, I also created a stopmotion animation that visually represents the emotional journey of a young girl struggling with the effects of sexual abuse. The animation tells the story of how her past traumas control her emotions and disrupt her life, but also shows her gradual attempt to regain control and find healing.

The character in the animation is faced with overwhelming feelings and memories that seem to follow her, representing the difficulty of moving forward when the past constantly threatens to resurface. As the animation progresses, the character begins to slowly rebuild her life, though the weight of her history continues to follow her, showing how complex and difficult the healing process can be.

The stopmotion technique allowed me to use physical materials, like animation clay, to create a sense of emotional depth and texture. The movement of the character reflects her emotional turmoil and the struggle to overcome what she has experienced. The background and setting were carefully crafted to reflect both the harshness and the hope of the journey.

This part of the project was a powerful way to convey the emotional layers of the subject, and I learned a lot about how animation can be used to tell stories that are both deeply personal and universally understood.
