Project: Frida Kahlo Illustration – Exploring Drawing Techniques
This illustration was created for a design class, where I focused on experimenting with different drawing techniques. For this project, I chose to draw Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist who has had a significant influence on my life. Her work and life story deeply inspire me, so I wanted to create an artwork that honored her impact.
I decided to use the pointillism technique (stippling), which involves creating the image with small dots. I found this technique to be a fun and creative way to build texture and depth while adding a unique, almost surreal quality to the illustration. It allowed me to pay attention to detail and experiment with shading and form in a new way.
Through this project, I learned a lot about patience and precision, as the pointillism method requires a lot of careful work. The process of building the image dot by dot was both challenging and rewarding, and I enjoyed seeing the portrait come to life in this distinct style.
This project helped me improve my drawing skills and pushed me to try new techniques that I wouldn’t have considered before. It also gave me the opportunity to create a piece that was both personal and artistic, celebrating an artist I truly admire.
